Dr. Sam Cullan has been recognized as one of the Top 10 Lawyers for Kansas and Missouri by Super Lawyers® for three years: 2009, 2011 and 2012. Cullan achieved the Top 10 ranking due to receiving the highest point totals during nominations, research, and peer reviews. Board Certification by the National Board of Trial Advocacy

Dr. Sam Cullan is one of only 4% of attorneys in the United States who have achieved Board Certification by the National Board of Trial Advocacy. (NBTA) The NBTA was created in 1977 and was the first accredited attorney board certifying agency in the world. The purpose of the NBTA is to independently test and examine the qualifications and skills of an attorney to verify that said attorney is a highly skilled, experienced and ethical trial lawyer.

The process of becoming board certified is rigorous which is why so few attorneys have obtained this status. The attorney must first petition for board certification and prove that they have handled a substantial number of cases. A list of independent judges and lawyers are confidentially contacted and interviewed to verify the lawyer’s ethics, skills and actual experience in depositions and the courtroom. The lawyer must submit extensive copies of pleadings, motions, and briefs from contested matters. They must also submit copies of depositions. They must prove that they have personally handled the voir dire, direct and cross examination of witnesses, as well as opening and closing statements in a substantial number of ongoing cases. The attorney must sit for a full day of examination. They must have personally been the lead counsel on numerous cases. The attorney must show they are constantly improving their skills through continuing legal education. Finally, they must show they are in good standing in any and all states they are licensed in.

AV Rating – Highest Ranking

An AV rating is the highest possible rating a lawyer can receive through the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings system. This reflects an attorney’s ethical standards and professional abilities. Ratings for lawyers are based on performance in Legal Knowledge, Analytical Capabilities, Judgment, Communication Ability, and Legal Experience. The highest rating of AV Preeminent (4.5-5.0) is the result of our peers ranking us at the highest level of professional excellence.

Super Lawyers

A rating service of outstanding lawyers working in more than 70 practice areas, the reviews that are given concern professional achievement and peer recognition. Peer nominations are combined with third party research undertaken by Super Lawyers. This process evaluates a lawyer on 12 indicators and selection for inclusion in Super Lawyers is done annually and state by state.
