Arizona Revised Statute 12-542 places a two-year statute of limitations on legal action following nursing home abuse and neglect. This period does not begin until the date injury was discovered, unless the courts find discovery should have taken place earlier. This detail can make taking legal action more complicated and is just one of several reasons you will want an experienced nursing home lawyer on your side from the moment you suspect mistreatment.

Our state gives victims of abuse and neglect a two-year window, but waiting is never a good idea. Remember, nursing homes are often part of larger corporations, and those companies typically have powerful attorneys and insurance adjustors waiting to squash any challenge that arises. While taking action earlier will not necessarily stop these powerful interests from trying to silence your family, it can be incredibly helpful in winning your case and protecting your loved one against future mistreatment.

If you have waited to take legal action but are still within the two-year statute of limitations, it's not too late.
