The Cullan Family – A Deep Sense of Duty, Responsibility & Commitment

We would like to take this opportunity to dedicate our practice to our parents, Harry and Lorene Cullan, and to our brothers, Dave and Dr. Dan Cullan.

Harry and Lorene Cullan were farmers and ranchers in Nebraska. They were married in 1932 during the great depression. They had nothing, and everyone told them they were too young to get married. They defied the “naysayers” and were married 69 ½ years. They loved farming and never retired. Lorene passed away in March 2002 at the age of 87. Harry died three weeks later at the age of 88.

Harry and Lorene raised twelve children on a family farm and ranch in Nebraska. This included ten boys and two girls. They stressed the importance of getting an education, working hard, and having your word be your bond. They encouraged all their children to go to college. After college, four became farmers. Six of the twelve became lawyers and four of the lawyers obtained double degrees in law and medicine.

Dr. Dan Cullan was first Cullan to become both a medical doctor and lawyer and was one of the first doctor/lawyer in the country dedicated to representing children injured due to birth injuries. He was a nationally-renowned trial lawyer and tireless advocate for children with cerebral palsy and brachial plexus injuries. Dr. Dan Cullan was also involved in the fight to put child protective caps on medication and poisonous liquid bottles. No doubt his efforts contributed to saving countless lives over the last several decades. The next time you have difficulty twisting and turning a child protective cap off a medication bottle, - think of Dan.

Dave was the first to become a lawyer in the family. He was passionate about family, his clients, and the law. Dave and Dr. Dan Cullan founded the original Cullan Law Firm which focused its practice solely on personal injury and medical negligence cases. Dave had a huge heart and in addition to fighting for justice in the courtroom, was instrumental in starting the Omaha Food Bank, which became a model for food banks across the country.
