How to Help Veterans: Today and Every Day
Soldiers’ Angels has many different programs for community involvement, including the Angel Bakers Team, where volunteers send a one-time care package of baked goods; the Ladies of Liberty Team, which sends one-time feminine care packages to deployed female soldiers; and the Letter Writing Team, where community members write letters to soldiers.
For those who want to send more than one package and participate year-round, Soldiers’ Angels offers an “adoption” program for deployed service members. If you sign up to adopt a soldier, you will send one letter each week and one care package per month for the duration of your adopted soldier’s deployment. You can “adopt” up to three service members at one time.
Other Ways to Give Back
If you’re looking to give back this holiday season, consider donating your time or new essential care items to soldiers and veterans in need. There are many ways to get involved. You can share money, items, and food, or spend a few hours helping prepare and ship care packages.
No matter which organization you partner with, most charities for deployed military care packages are seeking items like:
- Deodorant (non-aerosol)
- Individually wrapped non-perishable snacks (i.e. beef jerky)
Many nonprofits also encourage you to send handmade items, such as:
- Crocheted or knitted scarves or hats
- Letters and drawings
- Personalized bags and bandanas
Here at Cullan & Cullan, we want to thank all our active duty service members and veterans on this day and every day. You are what makes this country great.
We also encourage each and every reader to get involved with Soldiers’ Angels, or another nonprofit that supports soldiers and veterans. If you have any questions, you can contact the organization online .
